Program and Schedule:

Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971), arr. Hear•Say

Petrushka, a ballet in four tableaus

In light of continued COVID-19 safety precautions surrounding indoor events, this year's summer gala is going to look a little bit different, but we think it's going to be among the most memorable we've ever presented.  The whole evening will take place outdoors, and we are going to take advantage of our wonderful Pontiac dark skies to offer our audience a glimpse of the workings of the planets and stars above, set to the music of Gustav Holst’s The Planets in a new arrangement for two pianos by Duo Octavian.  Both Jupiter and Saturn will be visible in the sky, and the 14th of August is near the height of the Perseid Meteor Showers, so there will be lots to see.  Our viewing of the wonders of the universe will be aided by the Royal Astronomical Society, who will set up a telescope connected to a large projector screen: as Jupiter and Saturn move across the night sky, the telescope will project live images of the planets onto the screen while you listen.  Earlier in the evening, as the sun is setting, the Hear•Say Trio will present their own interactive arrangement of Stravinsky’s folk ballet Petrushka, complete with narration, multiple instruments per player, and even a few costumes.  Between the performances, we will welcome guests to enjoy a delicious meal brought to us by Le BBQ Shop's Food Truck, and we’ll be serving some of the excellent beers and wines that the Pontiac region has to offer to accompany.  We’d ask guests to please bring their own lawn chairs, picnic blankets, a sweater, and a pair of binoculars to get the most out of the night sky.  Please note, this event is planned for the 14th of August, but will be rescheduled to the 15th if weather conditions on the 14th are not workable.  The date will be confirmed for ticket holders during the week leading up to the event.  We hope you'll join us for this mini-festival of the joys of summer in the countryside!
