Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924)

La Bohème, opera in four acts

Puccini's La Bohème has become, since its premiere in 1896 in Turin, one of the world's best loved operas.  Set in Paris at Christmas time, it tells the tragic love story of Rudolfo and Mimì.  Rudolfo is a handsome poor writer, living in a run-down attic with his jovial artist friends Marcello, Schaunard, and Colline.  Mimì is a beautiful embroiderer and a dreamer, who lives in the apartment opposite.  On Christmas Eve, the four artist friends plan to go out and celebrate the Christmas season at Café Momus in the nearby Latin Quarter, when a chance meeting between Rudolfo and Mimì in the dark on the stairs of their building changes their lives forever.  What follows is one of the most poignant love stories ever set to music.

In this production, all of the Venturing Hills Concert Studio will be transformed into the opera set, including the audience.  Guests will arrive and find themselves seated around tables in Café Momus, and will watch the drama of the opera unfold around them as they enjoy a Parisian spread of food and wine.

Pontiac Enchanté is thrilled to be partnering with the Sylva Gelber Music Foundation for this ambitious production.  The Gelber Foundation supports talented young Canadian musicians working and studying in Canada and abroad, and a number of the cast members in this production are past award winners.

Complimentary wine, cheese, and bread served as part of this production.
