In this concert curated by Wakefield-based National Arts Centre Orchestra cellist Julia MacLaine, the cello is cast in three wildly contrasting partnerships: with the Celtic fiddle, ancient and earthy percussion, and the piano’s compelling lushness. Julia will explore how the cello relates to each of these partners in a program that features well-loved music by Bach (in an arrangement you have never heard before!), a little-known cello sonata from the 19th century by the Belgian composer Henriëtte Bosmans, settings of traditional Irish folk songs, and original compositions by Julia herself.
